Sava River Water Agency: Rising water levels, snow melting, authorities urged to monitor situation

(Patria) - Due to new precipitation, a rise in water levels has been recorded at most hydrological stations in the Sava River water area, announced the Sava River Water Agency.

It is expected that this trend will continue during the night.

'An extraordinary hydrological situation remains in effect in the Spreča River basin area upstream and downstream of the Modrac reservoir. Significant discharge from the Modrac reservoir and the rise in air temperature causing snowmelt from higher areas have led to increased water inflow across the entire Spreča basin. HS Strašanj, upstream of the Modrac reservoir, as well as HS Modrac and HS Karanovac, which are downstream of the reservoir, continue to record rising water levels, causing flooding of land and structures along the Spreča River,' the Agency adds.

Due to elevated water levels in the canal network in the Odžak and Central Posavina areas, water is being pumped into the Sava River.

The Agency notes that the hydrological situation depends on forecast precipitation data. Changes in these may affect the forecasted hydrological situation.

"In the event of a significant change in weather conditions in the Sava River water area, the Sava River Water Agency will issue a new notice in a timely manner. We suggest that competent institutions monitor the situation on the ground and act in accordance with their authorities, and we recommend increased caution to services implementing measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and material goods," the Agency warns.

Snowmelt and rain have also caused a series of problems in the Tuzla Canton, with rivers overflowing in several places. Due to a large landslide, traffic has been halted on the Tuzla-Bijeljina main road (Banj Brdo).
