Ademović on the failed session of the House of Peoples: SNSD and HDZ are turning institutions into a tool of political pressure

(Patria) - Following another failed session of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament, which SNSD and HDZ delegates did not attend, thus preventing a quorum, the Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Kemal Ademović, made a statement.

He pointed out that the session was blocked by the actions of SNSD, with the open support of HDZ, which continues the practice of conscious and systematic obstruction of the work of state institutions.

He chronologically outlined the events and stated that, in accordance with Article 58 of the Rules of Procedure of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament, a request to convene the 27th extraordinary session was sent on March 27, 2026, signed by eight delegates (five from the Bosniak people, two from the Serb people, and one from the Croat people). The request was formally received on April 1, 2026.

"Based on that request, the 27th extraordinary session of the House of Peoples was convened on April 3, 2026, for April 8, 2026, following prior consultations with the secretary of the House of Peoples, to check the availability of dates and avoid potential reasons for delegates' absence, including religious holidays. On the same day, April 3, 2026, SNSD delegate Mr. Špirić sent a letter invoking an alleged informal agreement not to schedule sessions between religious holidays, although such a conversation never took place, nor is there any basis for such a claim. Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that other delegates from the Serb people had no objections to the proposed date. The aforementioned letter was answered on the same day, with a clear explanation of the reasons for convening the session, pointing out the inaccuracy of the claims about alleged agreements, and calling for a fair and constructive relationship and ensuring the smooth functioning of the institution by attending the session.

Despite this, SNSD delegates refused to attend, which once again confirmed that these are not procedural issues, but a conscious political decision to block the work of the House of Peoples. Such behavior can no longer be interpreted as political disagreement, but as a continuous strategy of obstruction, which directly harms the interests of the state and all its citizens.

It is particularly concerning that HDZ, without clear and justified explanation, continues to follow SNSD's political moves, aligning itself with policies that are essentially anti-state, anti-European, and contrary to the interests of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The blockades of the House of Peoples' work directly halt key processes, including the reform activities necessary for Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path. Instead of responsible action, we are witnessing attempts to turn institutions into a tool of political pressure.

It is time to say clearly: the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot and must not be held hostage by political calculations.

I call on SNSD and HDZ to reconsider their actions and return to institutional functioning, as it is their duty to the citizens they represent. Bosnia and Herzegovina must move forward. Any conscious blocking of its institutional and European path carries political responsibility," stated the Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament, Kemal Ademović.
