Adem Šuman sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of Faris Pendek

(Patria) - The Council of the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo today imposed a unified prison sentence of 40 years on Adem Šuman, accused of the murder of young Faris Pendek during reckless violent behavior. He was sentenced to 39 years for murder and one year for minor bodily injury. This is a first-instance verdict to which he has the right to appeal.

Šuman is accused of blocking the path of four friends who were in a Citroen vehicle at an intersection in the Sarajevo neighborhood of Otoka on January 28, 2024, around 11:30 PM, without a driver's license and without any provocation or reason.

The accused opened the window and addressed them with the words: "What are you looking at me for, stop here?!".

Šuman approached their car and, intending to confront them, without getting out of the car, moved to the passenger seat and, through the open window, punched two of them with his fist, then took a pistol from the glove compartment and hit them again with the pistol grip.

After that, he fired one shot through the open window, which hit Faris Pendek in the chest and killed him, according to the indictment.

After the murder, Šuman fled and met with the accused Elmedin Gradišić and Mersim Saljević, who helped him hide evidence and cover up traces.

Elmedin Gradišić was sentenced to one year in prison, and Mersim Saljević was acquitted.
