Abazović: For SDP, the most important thing today is for the party to return to the roots of social democracy

One of the two biggest things that could happen for the political life of BiH is what is happening within the SDP – said for the Bosnian news agency Patria a professor from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo, Dino Abazović, assessing the extraordinary congress of the SDP, which is being held today in Sarajevo.

He believes that if there is indeed a strengthening of social democracy in BiH, as announced during the congress, then a more stable political spectrum in the country can be expected.

- For the political life of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is important to form a classic political spectrum. This implies a block that is left of center, a strong center, and of course something that goes right of center – says Abazović for NAP.

According to his assessments, Bosnia and Herzegovina has almost never had a left bloc until now, because political parties that carry the prefix social democracy in their name have not implemented that idea through their political programs. The best example of this, he says, is the SNSD, which carries the prefix of a democratic party, but it is not even close to that.

Professor Abazović assesses that for BiH, the story about the unification of the SDP with other political parties of the left bloc can be particularly important, because it could further lead to a more stable political spectrum in BiH, writes NAP.
