April 24th is fast approaching, public broadcasting financing not resolved

Next week, a session of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament will be held, which will, among other things, consider the Collegium Committee's Report on efforts to reach an agreement on the Proposal for a decision on the amount of the RTV fee, reports the Patria News Agency.

Due to the lack of an entity majority, this Proposal did not receive approval. Public broadcasters, as part of the public broadcasting system in our country, will very soon find themselves in a difficult financial situation if the issue of collecting the RTV fee is not resolved.

Namely, the current arrangement whereby telecom companies collected the RTV fee based on the law and bilateral agreements expires on April 24th.

Otherwise, the Proposal for a decision on the amount of the RTV fee stipulates that the fee will remain 7.5 KM.

Federal Television and BHRT submitted an opinion to the Parliamentary Assembly that the amount of the RTV fee should remain the same, but that more attention should be paid to the method of collecting the RTV fee, which represents a major problem.

However, there is no end in sight to this burning issue, and April 24th is very close. Otherwise, in a previous discussion, Mladen Bosić, Deputy Speaker of the BiH Parliament, stated that he believes citizens of Republika Srpska should not pay the RTV fee, because RTRS is the party service of SNSD, while Borjana Krišto, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from HDZ BiH, raised a number of objections to the work of the Public RTV System of BiH, demanding changes to the law that would allow Croats, as a constituent people, to have an RTV channel in their language.
