20 years since the establishment of NATO Headquarters Sarajevo: Support for lasting security for all people in BiH

(Patria) - On this day 20 years ago, NATO Headquarters Sarajevo was established. As stated, the mission relies on the long-standing partnership between NATO and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"NATO strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH. For 20 years now, the NATO Alliance has been working with BiH institutions to strengthen a mutually beneficial relationship,
providing support for a stable, functional, and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina. NATO and BiH are working together on the reform of the defence and security sector in BiH, ensuring democratic control over the Armed Forces of BiH and strengthening the transparency and accountability of BiH's defence institutions. Through its advisory role to BiH authorities, NATO Headquarters Sarajevo has played and continues to play an important role in this effort.

We also support BiH through the Defence Capability Building Package. The package will help strengthen BiH's capabilities in the areas of crisis management, cyber defence, response to natural disasters, and counter-terrorism. It will also further enhance the ability of the Armed Forces of BiH to effectively cooperate with NATO and Allied forces.

We work closely with the leading proponents of the Women, Peace and Security agenda in the Armed Forces of BiH, promoting NATO values with a real and lasting impact.

Our mission is to support lasting security for all people in BiH and to help preserve regional stability. Our mission is to promote the values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law, as well as to create security conditions that will contribute to investments and economic growth.

We also continue to provide support to the EU-led EUFOR Althea mission, in accordance with the Berlin Plus arrangement. Ultimately, we believe that our partnership with Bosnia and Herzegovina contributes to improving the daily lives of all BiH citizens. NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, reinforced by the newly established Political Activities and Support Department, is here to contribute to achieving that goal.
