Zvizdić and Čović met with EP Rapporteur for BiH Paul Rangel in Brussels

BRUSSELS, (Patria) - The Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH PA) Dragan Čović and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the BiH PA Denis Zvizdić held a meeting today in Brussels with the standing rapporteur of the European Parliament for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Member of the European Parliament from Portugal, Paul Rangel.

The topics of the meeting included amendments to the Election Law, elections in the City of Mostar, the future of democracy in BiH, and our country obtaining candidate status.

Čović emphasized during the meeting that the Election Law is in the final stage of agreement, and that the amendments to the Election Law will ensure legal equality of the constituent peoples in political representation at all levels of government. Also, regarding progress in integration into the European Union (EU), he stated that BiH should not be in the shadow of North Macedonia or Albania, nor should BiH tie its European path to any country.

Zvizdić confirmed the unambiguous commitment of the citizens to a European BiH. The fulfillment of reforms and undertaken obligations will result in positive socio-economic development, improvement of citizens' lives, and the establishment of modern European mechanisms in BiH, he said.

Rapporteur Rangel expressed satisfaction with the meeting, emphasizing the importance of active and continuous cooperation between BiH representatives and the EU, as well as the European perspective. He confirmed the stance that Bosnia and Herzegovina has its own separate path towards Europe and should not be burdened by the problems of other candidates or potential candidate countries.

At the end of the meeting, the officials expressed expectations for further positive cooperation and priority action in the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of obtaining candidate status and developing BiH as soon as possible.
