Žuta Tabija: 2nd Sarajevo Ramadan Festival to Close with Concert by Hafiz Burhan Šaban

This year's 2nd Sarajevo Ramadan Festival will be closed with a concert by hafiz Burhan Šaban and his accompanying band, to be held at Žuta (Jekovačka) Tabija on Thursday, 16 July, reports the Patria news agency.

Burhan Šaban was born in Skopje, where he became a hafiz of the Qur'an at the age of 14. He graduated from the Gazi Husrev-beg Madrasa in Sarajevo and gained recognition as an accomplished reciter of ilahis, as well as a music interpreter. To date, Burhan Šaban has released four solo albums and held numerous concerts of both spiritual and entertainment music. The Sarajevo Ramadan Festival was created by the Sarajevo Navigator Foundation and the Baščaršija Business Improvement Zone (ZUP) with the aim of enhancing the tourist offer of the Sarajevo destination.

The programs within the Sarajevo Ramadan Festival are part of the project “PHOENIX – Culture for the Future”, funded by the EU and implemented by the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, ZUP Baščaršija, and the Sarajevo Navigator Foundation.

The project “PHOENIX – Culture for the Future” lasts 18 months and is part of the “Sarajevo 2014” program funded by the EU as part of the commemoration of the centenary of the start of World War I, with the aim of sending a message of peace, reconciliation, and solidarity from Sarajevo to the world.
