Crimes in Bratunac: Milomir Vasić acquitted of charge of killing Ahmet Huseinović

Milomir Vasić was acquitted before the District Court in Bijeljina of the charge of committing a war crime in the Bratunac area, BIRN reported, as carried by Patria.

The trial chamber acquitted Vasić of the charge that in May 1992, as a member of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), he ordered Ahmet Huseinović to be brought out in front of the sports hall of the Bratunac elementary school Sveti Sava and then killed him with a pistol shot.

The chamber stated in its explanation that it is undisputed that Ahmet Huseinović was killed, as well as the fact that he was detained, but that the evidence presented by the Prosecution during the proceedings was insufficient to unequivocally determine the identity of the perpetrator of this murder.

The President of the Trial Chamber, Mensur Đonlić, referred to the testimony and explicit claims of the prosecution witness, Sead Husić, stating that they are not supported by material evidence or the testimonies of other witnesses, but were on several occasions refuted.

Namely, Husić claimed in his testimony that the victim was killed by a gunshot to the back of the head, although the findings of the Court Expert unequivocally state the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the right lung lobe, while damage to the skull is not mentioned at all.

In addition, Husić stated that he, together with Ekrem Gušić, had to clean up the blood after Huseinović's murder, while Gušić stated in his testimony that he cleaned up blood, but after the murder of two other persons of Bosniak ethnicity.

The Prosecution has the right to appeal this verdict, Patria writes.
