US Vice President's Life Tragedy: Joe Biden's Son Dies

Beau Biden (46), the eldest son of US Vice President Joe Biden, died on Saturday evening from a brain tumor, just a month after he was suddenly admitted to the Walter Reed military hospital near Washington.

The sad news was announced by Joe Biden himself, who wrote in a statement that his heart was broken and he was speechless, reports the Patria News Agency.

Biden's son participated in the US invasion of Iraq, after which he became the Attorney General of the state of Delaware, which many considered the beginning of his rise on the national political scene.

His first serious health problems occurred in 2010, when he suffered a mild stroke. In the meantime, he was diagnosed with cancer, and in 2013 he largely withdrew from public life, and last year he underwent surgery in a Texas hospital.

He is survived by his wife Hallie and two children - Natalie and Hunter.

A statement on the death of Beau Biden was also released by President Barack Obama, who wrote that he and his wife Michelle considered him a friend.

'Michelle and I are mourning tonight,' Obama wrote.

Otherwise, Beau's first life tragedy occurred when he was only three years old. In December 1972, he was seriously injured in a car accident in which his mother Neilia (30) and 13-month-old sister Naomi died. His younger brother Hunter was also seriously injured but survived.

Dad Joe took the oath as a US Senator in early 1973 in a hospital room, next to Beau, who was still recovering from his injuries.

It is reported that Beau and Hunter persuaded their father to marry his new partner Jill five years after the tragic accident, a marriage that lasts to this day.

After studying law, Beau worked for the US Department of Justice for almost ten years. In 2001, he went to Kosovo as a volunteer, where he led workshops for local judges and prosecutors, who needed training in preparing for the establishment of an independent state after the NATO bombing of Serbia.

In 2003, he joined the Delaware National Guard, and five years later he was sent as part of a contingent of soldiers to the war zone in Iraq. He was elected Attorney General of Delaware for two terms, and at the beginning of this year, he joined the large law firm Grant & Eisenhofer, according to American media.
