Zijad Karahmetović fights theses about BiH as a terrorist country with his cartoons

Bosnia and Herzegovina is increasingly under pressure due to alleged terrorist camps in the country. Neighboring Croatia and Serbia often disseminate information that there are a large number of training camps for warriors in BiH. Fighters from BiH, they claim, go to foreign battlefields and then return to the country. Such statements also come from the BiH entity of Republika Srpska. The controversial Dževad Galijašević, who presents himself as an expert on combating terrorism, often promotes the thesis in the media that BiH is a paradise for terrorists. Figures of several thousand terrorists in BiH are being cited.

Interestingly, security agencies have not yet discovered a single such camp in BiH. The Ministry of Security denies claims that fighters from foreign battlefields are being trained in BiH. SIPA has carried out a series of operations aimed at discovering and dismantling terrorist camps. The operations resulted in arrests, but ultimately, in most cases, the release of the suspects. Only a few individuals have been convicted in BiH for going to foreign battlefields so far. No more than those convicted in other countries for going to foreign battlefields. Security agencies in BiH explain that terrorism is a global problem, not just a problem of one country.

- This is my way of fighting against those who exert pressure on BiH. The security situation in the country should be dealt with by the institutions of this country, not by individuals who can promote any thesis for money – cartoonist Karahmetović told Patria.
