An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck northern Japan early this morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
No tsunami warning was issued and there are no reports of damage.
The epicenter of the quake was 18 kilometers west of the city of Sarabetsu, on the island of Hokkaido, at a depth of 81 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey.
