Željka Radović elected Chief Prosecutor of the Republican Public Prosecutor's Office of RS, was the only candidate

(Patria) - Željka Radović has been appointed to the position of Chief Prosecutor of the Republican Public Prosecutor's Office of RS. She was the only candidate for this position, which was also criticized by a member of the HJPC, Saša Sarajlić. He stated that Radović is a good candidate but criticized the lack of other candidates for this position. 

During the presentation of her work program, Radović stated that she would work on incentivizing prosecutors to file indictments even in situations with a smaller amount of evidence.

“The reason prosecutors opt for negative decisions, i.e., orders not to conduct an investigation, is because they focus on meeting their quotas and their performance reviews,” she said during a discussion reported by BIRN. 

Member of the HJPC of BiH, Saša Sarajlić, with displeasure, requested further clarification from Radović regarding the intention of filing more indictments without sufficient evidence, stating that people could sit on the defendant's bench for several years without sufficient evidence.

“Due to the results summarized at the level of the prosecutorial system, because of the low number of indictments filed for corruption, I said that I would encourage prosecutors to file indictments when they have a smaller amount of evidence and submit them to the court for a decision, as their decision is final,” said Radović. 

From 2005 to 2014, Radović held the position of Deputy Chief District Prosecutor in Doboj, after which she was appointed Chief Prosecutor, a position she held until today. In 2014 and 2019, she was also elected as a member of the HJPC of BiH, and her mandate expired a few months ago. 

Incidentally, the Annual Report of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH for 2022 is also on the agenda of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly. The President of the HJPC, Halil Lagumdžija, is also present at the session, listening to the delegates' discussion, after which he will answer questions.
