(Patria) - At least seven people have been killed and 30 injured after a passenger train in Russia derailed late last night due to a bridge collapse, officials said.
The bridge in Russia's Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, was damaged as a result of "unlawful interference", Russian Railways said.
A section of the bridge collapsed and then fell onto a train passing underneath, Russian state news agency TASS reported.
Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz said two children were among the injured.
"Emergency services are at the scene. Everything is being done to provide all necessary assistance to the victims," he wrote on Telegram.
The Russian Telegram channel Baza, which often publishes information from sources in security services and law enforcement agencies, reported, without providing evidence, that the bridge was blown up.
Reuters could not independently verify this.
Since Russia attacked Ukraine three years ago, there have been continuous cross-border shelling, drone attacks and covert attacks from Ukraine into the Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod regions bordering Ukraine.
The train was traveling from the town of Klimovo towards Moscow, Russian Railways said.
- It hit the collapsed bridge in the Vygonichsky district of the Bryansk region - Bogomaz said.
The district is located about a hundred kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
