Railway accident near Doboj: Passenger train hits man walking on tracks

(Patria) - A man walking on the tracks this morning was fatally hit by a passenger train traveling on the Banja Luka - Doboj route in Rudanka near Doboj.

"A passenger train traveling on the Banja Luka - Doboj route hit a man who, for reasons yet to be determined, was walking on the tracks.

The train driver, upon seeing the male person walking on the tracks, acted according to regulations, gave audible warning signals, and initiated braking, but unfortunately, the accident and extraordinary event could not be avoided because the man did not move off the tracks," stated Željeznice Rs.

Railway traffic on the Banja Luka - Doboj section of the track, between Srpska Kostajnica - Stanovi stations, has been suspended pending investigation.

Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Rs, the Emergency Medical Service, and the Commission for Investigation, Prosecution, and Conclusion of Extraordinary Events of Željeznice Rs have arrived at the scene.

"Željeznice Rs expresses its regret and extends its sincerest condolences to the family, and appeals and warns citizens to respect regulations, the prohibition of walking on tracks and staying on the tracks, as well as the mandatory observance of the prohibition of approaching the tracks in places where it is not allowed.

Pedestrians, as well as all other traffic participants, are obliged to respect the signaling and warning signs along the tracks, and not to walk on the tracks," emphasize Željeznice Rs.

They add that only by respecting regulations, signaling, and warnings, and by taking responsibility for oneself and others, can accidents be prevented and human lives be saved.
