Zelensky rejects ceasefire with Russia

(Patria) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected a ceasefire as Ukraine fights against the Russian invasion.

Zelensky believes the Kremlin would use a pause to rearm and regroup its troops to defeat the Ukrainian army.

- A pause on the Ukrainian battlefield will not mean a pause in the war - Zelensky said during a visit to Estonia, reports RSE.

He believes a pause would benefit Russia, which could later crush Ukraine.

Limited ceasefires have been occasionally proposed since Russia launched its full-scale war in February 2022, but they have never come into effect.

Both sides are struggling to replenish their supplies after 22 months of fighting and face the prospect of a protracted conflict.

With the front line approximately 1,500 kilometers long and largely static during winter, both Russia and Ukraine need artillery shells, missiles, and drones that enable long-range strikes.

Zelensky pointed out that Moscow is receiving artillery shells and missiles from North Korea and drones from Iran.

On January 4, the White House cited US intelligence officials as saying that Russia had acquired ballistic missiles from North Korea and was seeking them from Iran.

Zelensky was in the Estonian capital, Tallinn, as part of a two-day tour of the Baltic states, which are among Ukraine's biggest supporters.
