Zelenskiy: Russia will again try to destroy Ukraine's power grid

(Patria) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy warned that Russia will "try again to destroy" Ukraine's power grid this winter and that Kyiv is "preparing" to protect heating facilities, AFP reported.

Fears for Ukraine's energy security have grown ahead of the winter months as the war with Russia drags on for almost twenty months. During the past cold season, Russia waged a campaign targeting Ukraine's electrical grid and energy facilities, leaving thousands of people to face low winter temperatures, which can be severe in parts of Ukraine.

"This winter, Russian terrorists will again try to destroy our power system," Zelenskiy said in his regular evening address. "We are fully aware of the danger," he added.

He said that Kyiv is preparing to "protect our production facilities and supply of electricity and heat, to restore everything damaged by Russian strikes and hostilities".

He said that government officials met to discuss the protection of energy facilities. "Victory this winter, overcoming all difficulties and protecting our people is very important," he said.
