(Patria) - US President Donald Trump announced that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next Friday in the US state of Alaska.

The US president, who has repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine, has spoken several times by phone with the Russian president in recent months, but has not seen him in person since returning to the White House.

The main topic of the meeting is expected to be ending the war in Ukraine.

Trump previously stated that the announced agreement would include a territorial exchange that, as he noted, would be beneficial for both sides.

- It is very complicated, but there will be an exchange of territories, to the benefit of both sides - Trump said.

He does not rule out the possibility of a trilateral meeting with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, emphasizing that he believes Putin wants peace just as much as Ukraine and other European leaders.

After the meeting in Alaska was announced, the Ukrainian president reacted, saying that Ukraine "will not give its land to the occupiers."

In a post on social media, he warned that any solutions without Ukraine would be "solutions against peace."

"This war must be ended - and Russia must end it. Russia started it and is dragging it out, ignoring all deadlines, and that is the problem, not something else. Decisions made without Ukraine will achieve nothing. Those are unworkable decisions," Zelensky wrote in a post on platform X.

Zelensky said the announced summit is being held "very far from the war raging in his country."
