Zelensky in London held a meeting with European leaders: Europe must stand with Ukraine, Trump has his own vision

(Patria) - After the meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, London announced the first conclusions.

Starmer then held a conference call with other European allies to brief them on the talks. According to a statement from the British Prime Minister's office, European leaders agreed that Europe must "stand with Ukraine" and further "increase economic pressure" on Vladimir Putin.

British, French, German, and Ukrainian national security advisors have been tasked with continuing discussions on peace proposals in the coming days.

"The leaders discussed the importance of US-led peace negotiations for Europe's security and supported the progress made so far. They emphasized the need for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, including strong security guarantees. They agreed that while diplomatic efforts continue, Europe must stand with Ukraine and strengthen its ability to defend itself against continuous attacks that have left thousands of people without heating and electricity," Starmer's office announced.

"Progress in using frozen Russian state assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine was also discussed. All leaders agreed that this is a critical moment and that we must continue to strengthen support for Ukraine and economic pressure on Putin to end this barbaric war."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that "Trump has his own vision of ending the war, which differs from Ukraine's."

"The United States wants the war to end, but for Ukraine, the conditions under which this war ends are key," he said.

He also emphasized that security guarantees must be confirmed by the US Congress. Zelensky concluded that Western unity is crucial for Kyiv now: "The unity of Europe and Ukraine, as well as the unity of Europe, Ukraine, and the United States, is key."

Zelensky's statements are significant because this is the first time a Ukrainian leader, after the US-Russian 28-point plan, which has now been revised to 20, has publicly stated that he disagrees with Trump on key points.

"Ukraine has no right - neither according to the Constitution, nor according to international law, nor according to moral law - to give up territory," Zelensky said.

He announced that Ukraine will revise the current draft of the US peace proposal and submit it to Washington, "probably on Tuesday evening."

Speaking about the country's reconstruction, Zelensky said that the key issue is financing and that Europe's stance must be taken into account, which he believes plays a crucial role. "European participation in these negotiations is key," he said.

Volodymyr Zelensky is now traveling to Brussels for meetings with NATO leader Mark Rutte and EU leaders, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President António Costa.
