Zelensky: US requested Ukraine's help in defending against Iranian drones

(Patria) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said today that Ukraine received a specific request from the United States for assistance in resolving the issue of drones in the Middle East.

"We received a request from the US for specific support in protection against (Iranian) Shaheds in the Middle East region. I gave instructions to provide the necessary means and ensure the presence of Ukrainian specialists who can guarantee the required security," Zelenskyy wrote on platform X.

He emphasized that Ukraine helps partners who help it "in ensuring our security and protecting the lives of our citizens."

Israeli and American attacks that began on Saturday against Iran caused an Iranian response in the region, particularly the use of Shahed drones.

Ukraine has significant experience in countering these aircraft as Russia extensively uses such drones – originally designed in Iran but now produced in Russia – to bomb Ukrainian territory.

US President Donald Trump told Reuters today that he would accept help from any country when asked about Ukrainian assistance in defending against Iranian drones.

"I will certainly accept any help from any country," Trump said in a phone interview.
