Zelensky: Russians are asking for a ceasefire, but attacking us every day - this is extreme cynicism

(Patria) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday accused Moscow of cynicism.

He pointed out that Russian attacks on Ukraine continue with undiminished intensity ahead of the ceasefire that the Kremlin unilaterally announced for the period from May 8 to 10.

"Russians are asking for a ceasefire on May 9, while attacking Ukraine every day themselves. This is extreme cynicism," Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

He states that the Russian army has attacked Ukraine with 1,180 drones and 1,360 guided aerial bombs in one week.

"Just last night, 165 drones attacked Kyiv, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, and Mykolaiv," Zelensky stated yesterday, adding that Russians have been attacking the Donetsk and Sumy regions with heavy aerial bombs since Sunday morning.

He reiterated that Ukraine is open to a ceasefire, but one that does not only apply to Russian celebrations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin unilaterally declared a 72-hour ceasefire on the occasion of Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on Friday, May 9, which commemorates the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Moscow rejected Kyiv's proposal to extend the ceasefire to 30 days and for it to be complete.
