Zelensky revealed: Operation in Kursk aims to create a buffer zone

(Patria) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated yesterday that the operation in Russia's Kursk region aims to create a buffer zone.

This is the first time Zelensky has clearly explained the objective of the incursion into Russian territory, Sky News reports.

Zelensky previously said that the operation launched on August 6 aims to protect communities in the Sumy border region from constant shelling.

- Now, our primary task in defensive operations overall is to destroy as much Russian military potential as possible and conduct maximum counter-offensive actions - Zelensky said in his nightly address.

Zelensky emphasizes that this includes creating a buffer zone on Russian territory, adding that Ukraine "continues to inflict losses on Russia".

He claimed that the Ukrainian operation in Russia's Kursk region is damaging "the Russian army, the state, their defense industry, and their economy".

On August 6, the Ukrainian army attacked the Kursk region, occupying, according to Kyiv, 82 settlements and 1,150 square kilometers, moving the war onto Russian territory for the first time.
