Zelensky leaves White House after heated argument with Trump

(Patria) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky left the White House after a verbal clash with US President Donald Trump, who accused him of being ungrateful and lacking respect for the United States.

A White House official also announced that the joint press conference of the two leaders was cancelled.

Trump and Zelensky were scheduled to sign an agreement on the use of rare minerals at the press conference.

Both Trump and US Vice President J.D. Vance, who also attended the meeting, accused Zelensky of being ungrateful for three years of American support.

- What you are doing is disrespectful to the country - this country that has supported you far more than many people thought it should - Trump said at the meeting.

Vance intervened by claiming that Zelensky does not respect Trump because he came to the Oval Office to argue, with which Trump agreed.

Zelensky responded: "I have great respect for your country."

Trump wrote in a post on the social network Truth Social after the meeting that Zelensky "is not ready for peace if America is involved."

"I have determined that President Zelensky is not ready for peace if America is involved because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations.

I don't want an advantage, I want peace. He showed no respect for the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace," Trump wrote.

Reuters reported that Zelensky left the White House after the meeting with Trump and Vance. The meeting was initially routine, but at one point the atmosphere became heated.
