(Patria) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Damascus today where he met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara. Zelensky was in Turkey on Saturday where he spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He arrived in Damascus by Turkish plane in the company of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who also attended the meeting.
"We agreed to work together to bring greater security and more opportunities for development to our societies. We discussed the situation in the region and the prospects for changing it for the better. We also discussed the circumstances of Russia's war against Ukraine – I am grateful for the support. There is a strong interest in exchanging military and security experiences. I appreciate the words of respect addressed to our people.
We also touched upon Ukraine's role as a reliable supplier of food products and discussed joint opportunities to strengthen food security throughout the region. We understand very well the energy and infrastructure challenges that Syria is currently facing. We are ready to work together to expand opportunities for both our countries and their citizens," Zelensky stated in a post on X.
