Jasna Mrkonjić sentenced to 20 years in prison for cruel murder

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Municipal Court of Tuzla, based on the indictment of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton, has passed and announced the first-instance and non-final verdict for Jasna Mrkonjić (53) from Tuzla for the criminal offense of murder committed in a cruel manner and sentenced her to 20 years in prison.

We remind you that Mrkonjić is accused of coming to the house where her sister lives in the Tuzla suburban settlement of Dobrnja in July 2021, because her nephew had previously called her and informed her that the woman was very upset and not feeling well. After telling the family members that she was there and would save her, and that no emergency help was needed and that they should leave the house, she sat on her sister's stomach, covered her mouth with her hands, and pressed her neck. This led to the victim suffocating due to the closure of her airways and the flow of blood and oxygen to her brain, which caused her death.

The Municipal Court of Tuzla, at the proposal of the prosecutor in charge, extended the pre-trial detention measures for the accused for a period of nine months.
