(Patria) - Airlines in the US canceled more than 1,600 flights yesterday, after a huge winter storm caused power outages in 12 states, ahead of the announced extremely low temperatures during the weekend.
By nine o'clock local time, 1,643 flights were canceled, and 1,238 were delayed, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware, Reuters reports.
"We expect some operational challenges due to the weather in the Midwest today and potentially tomorrow," Delta Airlines announced yesterday.
Southwest Airlines led the list with 355 canceled flights, followed by SkyWest with 275, while United Airlines canceled 258 flights.
