The City Council of Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, voted on Tuesday to boycott all Israeli products "as long as the occupation of Palestine continues", reports the Patria News Agency.
The Council made the decision as a symbolic gesture of support for Palestinian statehood and condemnation of Israel's "apartheid policy".
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the move, and with reference to volcanic activity in Iceland, assessed it as a "volcano of hate" that erupted from the city hall.
"Without reason or justification, other than hate itself, calls for boycotting the State of Israel are heard," reads the statement quoted by the Times of Israel. "We hope someone in Iceland will come to their senses and stop this one-sided blindness directed against Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East," writes Index.
