Sarajevo Haggadah unavailable to visitors of the National Museum due to renovation of exhibition space

Works on modernizing and improving the conditions for preservation and presentation of one of the most valuable items of Bosnian-Herzegovinian cultural heritage - the Sarajevo Haggadah - began at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 11, reports Patria agency.

During the works, the Sarajevo Haggadah, as well as other items exhibited in this room, will not be available to visitors of the National Museum of BiH.

The project "Haggadah, Closer to You" involves the renovation of the room where the Haggadah is kept, the renovation of security systems, as well as a new presentation method that will allow all visitors closer and more intimate access to this valuable manuscript.

The project is financed by the Republic of France, and UNESCO is responsible for the project implementation.

In the renovated room, besides the Sarajevo Haggadah, there will also be several valuable items from the medieval collection of the National Museum of BiH, such as a part of the cloak of Tvrtko I Kotromanić, as well as charters and documents representing the cultural diversity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, nurtured in our country through centuries.

Incidentally, the Sarajevo Haggadah and the Manuscript Collection of the Gazi Husrev-beg Library were inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, dedicated to movable world cultural heritage, at the UNESCO General Assembly in Paris, marking the first two items from Bosnia and Herzegovina inscribed in this register, and opening the door for new nominations from the movable assets segment.
