The Independent Board of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina should today again consider initiating disciplinary proceedings against Mirsad Vilić, director of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies in BiH, because he is allegedly responsible for failures during the visit of Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić to Srebrenica last year, when Vučić was attacked, Patria reports.
If the Independent Board decides today that there are grounds for initiating disciplinary proceedings against Vilić, this could mean that the head of the DKPT will be suspended from duty until the proceedings are concluded.
This is not the first time that the Independent Board has discussed Vilić's responsibility for failures during last year's incidents in Srebrenica. The initiative for his removal was submitted by the state Minister of Security, Dragan Mektić.
Interestingly, the same Independent Board previously refused to remove the then director of the State Investigation and Protection Agency, Goran Zubac, who was accused of being responsible for failures during the demonstrations in Sarajevo in 2014, when the building of the Presidency of BiH was set on fire. Not even disciplinary proceedings were initiated, as is now being considered in Vilić's case, even though there is no indictment against the director of the DKPT nor is he on trial.
Zubac was not removed nor did he face disciplinary action, nor was he suspended even after the first-instance verdict, by which he was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of one year. Thus, during that period, SIPA was run by a convict.
Zubac was removed only after the sentence became final, Patria reports.
