Eight individuals arrested for human smuggling

(Patria) - Police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) today searched six locations in the area of Bihać in the operational action "Sirijus".

The searches were carried out due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that criminal offenses of "Human Smuggling" and "Organizing a Group or Association for the Commission of the Criminal Offense of Migrant Smuggling" prescribed by the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been committed.

Eight individuals were deprived of liberty, three of whom are citizens of Pakistan, who will be handed over to the Service for Affairs with Foreigners during the day for further jurisdiction for their transfer to the Immigration Center in East Sarajevo.

Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be taken to SIPA premises for criminal processing and questioning as suspects; their further status will be decided by the acting prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the search, mobile phones, SIM cards, a certain amount of money, passports, and other items that could serve as evidence that the aforementioned criminal offenses were committed were found and temporarily confiscated.

The mentioned activities were carried out based on the order of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Una-Sana Canton.
