Two shifts of customs officers arrested for corruption

Two shifts of Bulgarian customs officers at the "Lesovo" border crossing on the Bulgarian-Turkish border have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in corruption, reports the BiH news agency Patria. 

Checks have been carried out at more than a hundred addresses so far, and searches are continuing, the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office announced, which is carrying out the operation together with the State Security Agency.

It is not yet known what exactly the customs officers are accused of, and media in Bulgaria report that Turkish drivers have complained in recent months that they were forced to pay fabricated fees.

The operation began last night, and the "Lesovo" border crossing, which is one of the two between Bulgaria and Turkey, is currently closed.
