Closed to the public since 1992: Exhibitions also in the Department of Prehistory

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At the beginning of the year, renovation works on the roof of the Department of Prehistory at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina were completed, which included replacing the dilapidated wooden structure and the existing covering with zinc sheeting, which has a longer lifespan.

Roof repairs preceded the restoration of wall and ceiling paintings, which represent a rare example of preserved Art Nouveau painting in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition, the concrete balustrade railings on the external terraces of the museum complex were restored, and a fire alarm and video surveillance system were installed, which are part of the museum's preventive conservation of collections.

The completion of restoration works on wall and ceiling paintings and the procurement of equipment for the preventive conservation of collections will create conditions for setting up an exhibition in the halls of the Department of Prehistory, which has been closed to the public since 1992.

All activities on the project are related to preventive conservation, which aims to prevent, stop, or slow down the deterioration of museum material by introducing high protection standards and creating optimal conditions for its preservation.

The project "Preventive Conservation of Collections of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo" is implemented by the Commission to Preserve National Monuments, and funds were donated by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in BiH. The total amount of the project is USD 625,000.00 (1,070,000.00 convertible marks).
