Guesting on the show Novi Ugao on BHT1 on Friday evening, journalist Dženana Karup-Druško said she does not understand why such a big issue is being made in BiH over the arrest of Fahrudin Radončić.
Some non-governmental organizations have announced protests in Sarajevo. There is mention of prosecuting people who provided the media with transcripts of conversations between Radončić and his associates from the BiH Prosecutor's Office.
Who was behind the Budimir case?
- We have prosecuted people in much higher positions. The arrest of Mr. Budimir was much more spectacular and much uglier; the man was arrested at his workplace in the Presidency of BiH, with long-barreled weapons..., and the case ended with a major role of the Constitutional Court, which stated that everything was based on hearsay evidence – recalled Karup-Druško, as reported by the Patria agency.
- What forces and structures stood behind Budimir's arrest at that time and why? Karup-Druško wonders.
BiH should have started addressing systemic issues long ago, she says, such as who provides materials to the media, why certain media outlets release specific materials that are in the interest of their publishers...
- These are questions that should have been raised in this society long ago. Unfortunately, in most media, the need to contribute to the community and society has been lost, and instead, they contribute to the publisher, certain circles of people, certain lobbies... These issues should have been resolved long ago, but I do not want this case (the Radončić case) to be the occasion and decisive factor. This case in itself does not deserve that.
Of course, questions should also be raised about the internal workings of the HJPC itself, about their work, about their decision-making, because they are the ones who contributed to us having this Court and Prosecutor's Office today, and I am not sure they have the right to lecture anyone – warned Karup Druško.
Unity of Bosniaks is not threatened
The announcement by certain non-governmental organizations in BiH that they might take to the streets in protest over the arrest of the SBB leader was called extra-institutional pressure on the judiciary of BiH by professor from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo, Dr. Šaćir Filandra.
Filandra said that Bosnia and Herzegovina is also facing the threat that such pressures could even become a practice in our society, as a similar situation has occurred before.
Unprecedented pressures were exerted on the country's judicial system after the decision of the BiH Constitutional Court on the unconstitutionality of January 9, which is celebrated as the Day of Republika Srpska.
- Such a practice is not good and should be eliminated, and it can only be eliminated if the country's judicial system becomes more competent and professional – said Dr. Filandra.
Asked whether the unity of Bosniaks is threatened after the Radončić case, Professor Filandra said he disagrees with that.
- There are a lot of information, semi-information, disinformation, it is difficult to concentrate on everything... some political distrust exists, it has always existed under some guise, but greater political interests have led to that unity – said Dr. Filandra.
