Why a Bosniak cannot be the police commissioner in HNK

Tomorrow, a session of the Bosniak Club in the HNK Assembly will be held in Mostar, which will consider only one item on the agenda - the illegal election of the police commissioner and the response of the HNK Prosecutor's Office based on the criminal complaint filed by the Bosniak Club against several individuals, reports the Patria News Agency.

The Bosniak Club requested the Independent Board for the Election of the Police Commissioner, which on September 29, 2014, made a decision they deemed illegal regarding the appointment of the HNK Ministry of Internal Affairs police commissioner, to annul it.

Furthermore, they asked the President of the HNK Government to withdraw the Government's Decision, as the session was never held.

Also, the Bosniak Club believes that the HNK Ministry of Internal Affairs, through its illegal actions, initiated the Independent Board to make an illegal Decision on the appointment of the police commissioner.

Based on these conclusions, on behalf of the Bosniak Club, a criminal complaint was filed against the President of the Government Denis Lasić, the Minister of Internal Affairs Slađan Bevanda, and the President of the Independent Board Ivo Karačić by the Head of the Club Ramiz Jelovac.

On December 30, 2014, a negative response was received from the HNK Prosecutor's Office, stating, among other things, that the acting prosecutor Spomenko Jukić did not establish the existence of a criminal offense nor that the reported individuals committed any criminal offense, and suggested seeking "justice" through other means.

Several individuals applied for the position of police commissioner, and in September last year, the Independent Board decided to recommend Ilija Lasić as the best candidate for police commissioner.

Subsequently, in accordance with the law, the Independent Board submitted its decision to the Minister of Internal Affairs of HNK, who forwarded it to the Government for confirmation or rejection.

The Government session was not held, but regardless, the President of the Government sent a letter to the Minister of Internal Affairs, claiming that the Government's Decision was negative and that further actions necessary for the appointment of the commissioner should continue.

With this move, he enabled the confirmation of Ilija Lasić as the police commissioner.

During the hearing at the HNK Prosecutor's Office, Jelovac emphasized that this appointment is a gross violation of the rights of Bosniaks, considering the importance of the police commissioner's position as the second-highest official in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. What steps the Bosniak Club will take next, after the HNK Prosecutor's Office rejected their complaint as unfounded, will be known tomorrow.
