Kosovo Assembly session begins with minute of silence for Srebrenica genocide victims

(Patria) - Members of the Kosovo Assembly began today's session with a minute of silence for the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, committed in 1995 during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly Glauk Konjufca said that crimes do not age and expressed hope that the perpetrators of the crimes in Srebrenica will be brought to justice.

„Genocide and crimes against humanity are crimes that never become obsolete. That is why we always hope that the criminals will one day finally receive the punishment they deserve,” Konjufca emphasised.

Bahrim Šabani from the Bosniak coalition “Vakat” stated that every July 11, the remains of Bosniak victims of the Srebrenica genocide, committed by members of the VRS, aided by the then Serbian regime, are buried at the Potočari Memorial Centre in Srebrenica.

Šabani said that while the world participates in condolences and always remembers this day, on the other hand, the perpetrators of this terrible genocide in the heart of Europe, in which 8,372 innocent and guiltless Bosniaks were brutally killed in just a few days, deny their crimes year after year.

Šabani reminded that the Kosovo Assembly passed a Resolution condemning the Srebrenica genocide on July 7, 2021.

On the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, a commemorative gathering will be held tonight at the Kosovo Institute of History in Pristina, organised by the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo from the Bosniak community, Emilija Redžepi, and will be attended by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.
