Civil Protection Headquarters Convenes: Water Breaches Fence, Highway Blocked Between Kakanj and Zenica

Traffic has been suspended on the highway between Kakanj and Zenica after large quantities of water and mud flooded the roadway, reports Patria.

A large amount of water and waste material breached the barricades, after which it spilled onto the highway and the regional road.

Due to a landslide of waste material at the Kakanj mine's disposal site, the flow of the Ribnica River was interrupted, creating a large accumulation of water near the village of the same name. Mine workers have been trying for about ten days to establish a safe flow of the Ribnica to the Bosna River, a few kilometers downstream from the village, but they have not succeeded.

This morning, the water breached the embankments and spilled onto Corridor Vc.

Kakanj Mayor Nermin Mandra has convened an emergency session of the Civil Protection, Patria has confirmed from the Municipality of Kakanj.
