The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised citizens to postpone all non-essential travel to Russia, the latest move in the escalating relations between Moscow and Ankara after Turkey shot down a Russian plane that violated its airspace, reports the BH News Agency Patria.
The Ministry stated in a press release that Turkish citizens in Russia are already facing difficulties, and it would be advisable to postpone travel until the situation calms down.
The downing of the Russian plane is significant as it is the first time in 50 years that a NATO member has shot down a Russian aircraft, leading to a strong reaction from Russia.
On the other hand, Russia has also restricted tourist travel, Turkish trucks are stuck at the border, and large quantities of food intended for import have been confiscated, which means economic sanctions have begun, reports The Guardian.
