Deputy Brkić: 'Nuclear safety is of paramount importance'

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Josip Brkić participated in the Conference on Nuclear Security – Maintaining and Strengthening Efforts, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna from February 10-14, and stated that for BiH, which is not a nuclear country, nuclear safety is very important due to the cross-border impact of potential nuclear accidents.

"The risks to human health and the environment posed by a nuclear accident and possible cross-border consequences mean that international cooperation is of paramount importance," Brkić said.

Brkić congratulated IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi on his recent appointment to this position and wished him a very successful term, emphasizing that the Agency needs strong and dedicated leadership in the challenging times ahead.

He expressed his conviction that the IAEA will continue to pursue its noble goal of nuclear non-proliferation and the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

He also welcomed the unanimously adopted ministerial declaration, which shows the determination of the international community to engage in strengthening nuclear safety.
