Switzerland Request: BiH Prosecutor's Office Seeks Extradition of Elfeta Veseli to BiH Judiciary

The prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes, through the Ministry of Justice of BiH, has sent a request to the institutions of the Swiss Confederation for the extradition of the suspect Elfeta Veseli, born 04.06.1960 in Uroševac, Serbia, residing in Vlasenica, who, according to the BiH Prosecutor's Office's knowledge, is located in Switzerland, it was announced from the BiH Prosecutor's Office, reported by the Patria News Agency.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office is conducting an investigation against Elfeta Veseli for the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population, under Article 173 of the BiH Criminal Code. The investigation against the said person is being conducted in the Special Department for War Crimes, and the suspect is accused of committing a brutal murder with a knife in July 1992, as a member of the Army of RBiH, in the village of Kamenica, of a twelve-year-old boy of Serbian nationality.

At the same time, the BiH Prosecutor's Office is conducting intensive activities to gather evidence in order to identify and prosecute other persons who have command responsibility within the framework of the crime for which the suspect is accused.

By conducting the investigation in cooperation with police and security agencies in BiH and abroad, prosecutors and investigators have learned that the suspect is located in the area of Neuchatel in the Swiss Confederation.

Given that all witnesses, evidence, and victims in this case are located in BiH, the acting prosecutor has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Justice of BiH for submitting an extradition request.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office expresses its gratitude to the judicial and security institutions of the Swiss Confederation for their cooperation so far, and appeals to these institutions to extradite the suspect to the BiH judiciary as soon as possible, thereby aiding the fight against impunity for war crimes.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office continues its activities to find, locate, and extradite all perpetrators of war crimes, regardless of where they are in the world, in order to prosecute them according to the highest legal standards, and to fight so that committed war crimes do not go unpunished.
