Public gatherings banned in France, crisis meetings across the EU

France announced on Saturday that all public gatherings are banned until midnight on Thursday following Friday night's attacks in Paris, and other European countries have also decided to tighten security measures, reports the Patria News Agency.

France explains this decision by the fact that security forces are mobilized to guarantee the city's safety and cannot simultaneously "ensure various parades and gatherings," according to a decree signed by Police Chief Michel Cadot.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi condemned the terrorist attacks in Paris and announced additional security measures.

-Like all Italians, I am sure that terrorists will not defeat us. That freedom is stronger than barbarism. That courage is stronger than fear, Renzi said in a statement regarding the attacks in Paris.

British police are enhancing security at transport hubs and major events following the attacks in Paris.

-We are currently strengthening our presence across the country, and we will discuss this at today's meeting of the Prime Minister and government members. We are doing everything to protect people, and we will secure all major gatherings, Scotland Yard announced.

According to him, increased security can already be observed today at train stations and in major cities.

Earlier, Prime Minister David Cameron announced a meeting with government members where they might decide on enhanced security measures in the country due to the terrorist threat.

Finland has announced that it is strengthening border controls at Helsinki Airport and Finnish ports, and the police are "increasing readiness" after the Paris attacks.

Berlin police introduced enhanced security measures for French buildings in the German capital on Saturday.

-We adjusted our protection measures overnight, a police spokeswoman told AFP on Saturday morning, without providing further details.

Barriers have been placed in front of the French embassy on Paris Square in Berlin, France Press reported. Dozens of people have already gathered in front of the embassy building, leaving flowers and candles in a sign of support.

Chancellor Angela Merkel convened an emergency session of the German government for Saturday and promised to "do everything" to help France in its "fight against terrorists."

Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said his ministry would also implement security measures.
