Haris Gogić was killed and his brother Mirza was injured in a robbery in St. Louis on June 1, 2013. American Joseph Fox was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the murder, robbery, and injury, reports the Patria News Agency.
The attacker entered the store around 11:40 AM. One of the brothers grabbed a baseball bat in self-defense. However, the attacker opened fire, shooting Haris in the head, while wounding Mirza in the arm. Haris died in the hospital from his injuries. The robber took $30 from the cash register and fled.
-I am in shock. I can't believe this happened, said then 19-year-old Dženan Muhić, one of Haris's best friends who visited him in the hospital the day before he died.
Mirnesa Audić (20) and Ena Duvnjak (19), Haris's elementary school friends, said that he and his older brother had no enemies.
-He never got into any drama or trouble. He tried to stay away from all of that, said Audić.
Several other friends and customers said that the Gogić brothers were friendly and generous men who cared about their customers.
-They did everything for anyone in this neighborhood. They cared about everyone, said 29-year-old Cornell Jeffery.
Another customer, Izell Payne (40), said that the brothers always allowed people to take something without paying if they didn't have money, adding that their mother often offered customers food and coffee.
-If you needed anything, you could be a stranger but they would approach you and help. This community is very close to the Gogić family, added Payne.
