The Higher Court in Belgrade has sentenced nine defendants to suspended prison sentences for the arson of the US Embassy in 2008, following the "Kosovo is Serbia" rally. Two defendants were acquitted, and proceedings against Milan Dubočin have been separated, with his verdict to be announced later, B92 reports, as conveyed by the Patria News Agency.
All convicted individuals received suspended sentences ranging from five to ten months, and they will not need to serve time in prison if they do not commit any criminal offense within the next two to three years.
The indictment states that the suspects arrived in an organized manner at the US Embassy, where they threw stones, flares, and other objects, causing a fire in which Zoran Vujović died. Before reaching the US Embassy, they threw objects at the Embassies of Croatia and Germany, causing a minor fire at the latter.
