6,500 KM for Merhamet's project to help the elderly

The Municipality of Centar Sarajevo, led by Mayor Dževad Bećirević, has been providing funds to the MDD “Merhamet” Association for the project “Home Care for the Elderly, Frail and Immobile Persons“ for the fifth year in a row, reports the Patria News Agency.

For this project, the Municipality of Centar allocated 6,500 marks from the 2015 budget through a grant for non-profit organizations.

According to project coordinator Mersiha Hadžispahić, this activity plans to help 50 socially vulnerable members of the Association.

In order to become beneficiaries of this assistance, as Hadžispahić emphasized, members must be over 65 years old, receive a minimum pension, and live alone without close relatives who cannot care for them.

- This is a project that we have been implementing in the territory of the Centar municipality for a full five years. The donation we receive is the basis and essence for the realization of the project. We provide beneficiaries of this assistance with medicines, food packages, and medical support.

We also direct funds towards engaging a larger number of volunteers - unemployed individuals who provide assistance to socially vulnerable members. The support we receive from Mayor Bećirević and the Municipality of Centar is of great importance to us, and our goal is to develop good cooperation with other associations from the municipality's territory that work on the same or similar projects in order to improve the quality of services we provide to our beneficiaries, said Hadžispahić, it was announced from the Municipality of Centar.
