WSJ: Saudi Arabia to host Ukraine talks early next month

(Patria) - Saudi Arabia will host talks on Ukraine in August, inviting Western countries, Ukraine, and major developing countries, including India and Brazil, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The meeting will bring together officials from up to 30 countries, including Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico,
Chile, and Zambia, in Jeddah on August 5 and 6, WSJ reported, citing diplomats involved in
the discussion. Ukraine and Western officials hope the talks, which exclude Russia, can lead to international support for peace terms that favor Ukraine, the statement said.

The Kremlin says peace talks with Ukraine are only possible if Kyiv accepts the "new
reality," referring to its territorial claims. Kyiv says talks with Russia would only be possible after Moscow withdraws its troops, Reuters reported.

Among the invited countries, although it is not yet clear how many will attend, are expected to be countries that participated in a similar round of talks in Copenhagen in June, the report said. The United Kingdom, South Africa, Poland, and the European Union are among those who have confirmed their attendance, and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is also expected to attend, it added.
