(Patria) - Countries should gradually lift international travel restrictions based on risk assessment and must prioritize essential travel for emergencies, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced.
The WHO recommended that priority be given to important travel for emergencies, humanitarian actions, essential personnel travel, and repatriation.
The outbreak of new coronavirus infections in many parts of the world has forced numerous countries to reintroduce some travel restrictions.
They are now calling on each country to conduct its own cost-benefit analysis and decide on its priorities before resuming international travel.
In its latest travel guidance, the World Health Organization states that countries must consider local epidemiological and transmission patterns, national health, and measures already in place.
"Whether a country should introduce quarantine for all arriving travelers must be decided after assessing the risk and considering local infection circumstances," the WHO stated.
