Washington: Conference on NATO's Role in the Western Balkans

(Patria) - 20 years after the intervention: NATO and the promotion of democracy in the Western Balkans is the topic of a round table to be held on April 3rd in Washington, organized by the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina (ACBH) and the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD), reports Patria agency. 

The conference will be opened by Ajla Delkić, President of the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina from Washington, while the speakers will be Vesko Garčević, former Montenegrin Coordinator for NATO, Reuf Bajrović, former Minister of Energy in the Government of the Federation of BiH, Richard Kraemer from the Foreign Policy Institute, while the conference will be closed by Metodija Koloski, President of the United Macedonian Diaspora.

The organizers of this conference remind that seventy years have passed since the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was founded and more than two decades since NATO forces intervened to stop the bloody regime of Radovan Karadžić and Slobodan Milošević in genocide and ethnic cleansing in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, and that after this period, most of the Western Balkan countries have become members of the NATO alliance. Macedonia was recently invited to join NATO, while Montenegro, Croatia, and Albania are already members of the Alliance, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will soon be in the Membership Action Plan.
This represents an exceptional success for the countries of Southeast Europe, as well as for the Alliance, state the organizers of this meeting.
