Washington losing control, US empire in decline

(Patria) - The United States of America is entering a period of weakening global power, assesses American publicist Christopher Caldwell in a column published in The New York Times.

In the text titled "America Is Officially an Empire in Decline," Caldwell argues that recent international events increasingly show that Washington no longer has the political, economic, and military supremacy it enjoyed after the end of the Cold War.

According to his assessment, the US still possesses enormous power, but it is increasingly struggling to cope with challenges in various parts of the world. At the same time, the number of countries willing to pursue a more independent policy and challenge American influence is growing, further eroding the position Washington has held on the international stage for decades.

Caldwell believes that numerous wars, prolonged military interventions, and growing domestic political problems have taken a toll on America's ability to shape global events.

As he notes, the gap between American ambitions and actual capabilities today is greater than it was in previous decades.

He warns that every great power faces a moment when it can no longer maintain the same level of international influence, and that such a process is now unfolding in the case of the US.

In his view, the key question is no longer whether American dominance is weakening, but how Washington will respond to the new reality in which it is no longer the sole unquestionable center of global power, reports Faktor.
