Wang Yi: China calls on US and Israel to cease military operations

(Patria) - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Iranian counterpart in a phone call that Beijing supports Tehran in defending against US-Israeli attacks, as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies. Through a series of talks with his counterparts from Iran, Oman, and France, Wang outlined China's stance on the escalating conflict, AFP reports.

In a conversation with Iranian Minister Abbas Araghchi, Wang emphasized that Beijing "cherishes the traditional friendship between China and Iran." According to state television CCTV, he added: "We support Iran in defending its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity, and national dignity, as well as in protecting its legitimate rights and interests".

Wang conveyed that China calls on the United States and Israel to immediately halt military operations. "We call on the US and Israel to immediately cease military operations, avoid further escalation of tensions, and prevent the conflict from spreading to the entire Middle East region," Wang said, CCTV reports.

In a separate conversation with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, Wang accused the US and Israel of "deliberately instigating war against Iran," which, as he stated, "violates the purposes and principles of the UN Charter." He stated that China is ready to play an active role in resolving the crisis. "China is ready to play a constructive role, advocating for justice, peace, and an end to the war through the UN Security Council platform," Wang told Albusaidi.

Warning to major powers

During talks with his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot, the Chinese minister warned that the world faces a "return to the law of the jungle." "Major powers cannot arbitrarily attack other countries based on their military superiority," he emphasized. He concluded that the "Iranian nuclear issue must ultimately return to the path of political and diplomatic resolution."
