Vučić after published reports: Those who died in the helicopter crash are heroes to me

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić said at an extraordinary press conference held today in Belgrade that those who died in the helicopter crash on March 13 will always be heroes to this government, and that they are not to blame for anything, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

- Those who died in the helicopter crash on March 13 are heroes to me, and I am convinced that Serbia should remember them that way, said Vučić.

Major Omer Mehić, Captain Milovan Đukarić, Warrant Officer Nebojša Drajić, Warrant Officer Ivan Miladinović, doctor Dževad Ljajić, and anesthesiologist Miroslav Veselinović lost their lives to save a baby, reminded the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić.

He says that this was forgotten during the weeks-long hunt for culprits, in which, as he says, everyone in Serbia participated.

- I can once again express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims and tell everyone that they are not to blame for anything in my eyes, and if I may say so, in the eyes of this government. They are heroes, and that is how I will remember them, and I am convinced that Serbia should remember them that way - said Vučić at the press conference.

- Be satisfied with having chased and blamed ministers, generals, and colonels, and I ask you not to blame Omer Mehić now. Like countless times before, he wanted to save a child, he did not succeed, he paid the price himself - said Vučić.

The Prime Minister points out that the reports published yesterday do not shift the blame to anyone, but rather speak about responsibility, the causes of the accident, and mistakes.

The Prime Minister states that planes and helicopters crash every day, that tragedies happen, but that in those situations, humanity prevails, and victims are not crucified.

- Accidents do not happen without omissions and someone's responsibility. In normal countries, which Serbia will also be, everything is submitted to the competent authorities, and accidents are not used for witch hunts and collecting political points. Journalists and politicians do not conduct investigations. I ask you to talk about the report and to respect the victims - emphasizes Vučić.

According to him, only the Prosecutor's Office can put an end to this story, but he is convinced that there will be those who will continue the "witch hunt".

- The Prosecutor's Office is there to investigate all responsibility. If you want political responsibility for someone wanting to save a baby, ask me for it - the Prime Minister stated at the press conference.

A military helicopter crashed in Surčin on the evening of March 13, killing all seven people on board - four military crew members, two healthcare workers, and a baby who was supposed to receive medical attention.
