Supreme Court of FBiH rejects Sanjin Sefić's appeal, families expect maximum sentence of 20 years in prison

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina rejected the appeal of lawyer Kerim Čelik who requested an acquittal for Sanjin Sefić and upheld the appeals of the KS Prosecutor's Office and the injured parties' lawyer, Amir Agić, father of the late Selma Agić, confirmed for Patria agency. Selma and Edita Malkoč were hit by a car driven by Sanjin Sefić on October 10, 2016. Sefić fled the scene and then, with the help of his sister and a friend, left Bosnia and Herzegovina via the Uvac border crossing. He was extradited from Serbia on January 9, 2017.

Agić told Patria that it has been shown that there is "a state" in the Supreme Court of FBiH.

"I expect him to receive the maximum sentence of 20 years. What is important is that the Supreme Court of FBiH rejected the testimony of the expert witness from Serbia, Milan Vujanić, who claimed that Sefić was driving slower than he actually was, i.e., 65 km/h. It is also important that they stated there was premeditation. I also expect the verdict for the accomplices who were acquitted to be changed," Agić said.

Sanjin Sefić has been remanded in custody for two months pending the appellate court's decision.

As Agić stated, several hearings will be held in the retrial, after which the appellate court's decision will be made.

In the aforementioned verdict, Sanjin Sefić was sentenced to a combined prison term of 14 years and six months, while Sara Sefić, Dino Alić, Amar Salihović, and Saud Nišić were acquitted of the charge of committing the criminal offense of aiding the perpetrator after the commission of the criminal offense.
